Our latest stop on the Whack journey brought us to Moxcon in Alkmaar, a board game convention held in a beautiful church right in the historic city centre. It was a fantastic setting for a day of board gaming. Surrounded by impressive architecture, with sunlight shining through the coloured windows, it almost felt like a fairy tale and a pretty spectacular place for Whack at Moxcon to hit the table!

Of course, we weren’t there just to admire the scenery. We came to introduce Whack to as many new players as possible and had set ourselves a challenge: 50 new subscribers to the Whack mailing list in one day. Building that community is becoming increasingly important as we work towards launching our crowdfunding campaign. Someone who has actually sat down, played Whack, tried to outsmart their opponents and hopefully walked away wanting to play again has a much stronger connection to the game than someone who has only seen it online. That’s why conventions like Moxcon are so important to us.
And there were definitely players who wanted to play again! Some of our favourite moments of the day came from our younger Whack fans. Hearing an enthusiastic “Mom, I really want to buy this game!” or even “This is the best game ever!” across the table absolutely melted our hearts. Reactions like these made us feel that Whack at Moxcon really showed its potential as a family game, something that kids can get excited about while parents have just as much fun trying not to get Whacked!
By the end of the day, we checked the numbers. Did we reach our ambitious goal of 50? Almost! We welcomed 46 new subscribers to the Whack mailing list. We’ll happily call that a success! More importantly, those are 46 people who experienced Whack for themselves and decided they wanted to follow us on the next part of our journey. We hope to see many of them again when the time comes to launch our crowdfunding campaign.
There’s another way you can help Whack along the way. Whack is on BoardGameGeek! If you have played the game at Moxcon or one of our other events and have a BGG account, we would love to hear what you think. A rating or comment helps other board gamers discover Whack and gives us valuable feedback as we continue developing the game. Visit Whack on BoardGameGeek
A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, played, gave us feedback and joined our mailing list and a special thank you to all our young fans out there! Your excitement gives us even more motivation to keep going. Moxcon showed us once again just how much fun it is to put the game in front of new players. We’re working hard to bring Whack to you as soon as we can. Step by step—and Whack by Whack, we’re getting closer to game tables around the world!

Next stop: Spellenspektakel in Utrecht 7 and 8 november! See you there!
